The international Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) first introduced a Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) in an amendment of Annex 6 in 2008.
The introduction of EU 965/2012 with effect of 2014, consequently required all EU commercial air transport (CAT) operator to implement a FRMS in accordance with ORO.FTL.120 to enable crew members to remain “sufficiently free from fatigue”.
As per ICAO the FRMS shall be a “a data-driven means of continuously monitoring and managing fatigue-related safety risks, based upon scientific principles, knowledge and operational experience that aims to ensure relevant personnel are performing at adequate levels of alertness.”
Historically, the aviation industry have tried to cover the impact of fatigue by a prescriptive approach to limit flight and duty time for aircrew.
A FRMS shall provide the operator with a tool to adjust the risk management system to their own specific operation and needs. It should help to perform operation more effectively.
This course aims to provide the involved persons with the required knowledge and tools to monitor and maintain a FRMS in a sufficient form and proactively identify opportunities to improve operational processes and reduce risks.
It shall further alert crewmembers so that they can operate to a satisfactory level of performance.
By the end of this course, you should have:
