Aviation English for Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers
Introduction
This is a 5-day preparatory course for the ICAO language proficiency level 4 or above.
The course provides intensive training in aviation English language communication skills. The course also gives participants the opportunity to practise plain English in an aviation context.
It complies with the guidance provided by ICAO in the Manual of the Implementation of ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements (Doc 9835) and includes course materials produced by the award winning writers at Emery-Roberts.
Course Content
On completion of the training, participants should have:
- improved their communicative competence in terms of increased fluency and accuracy in speaking on aviation-related matters
- improved the ability to interact, confirm and clarify
- understood the importance of using plain language in unusual and emergency situations
- improved understanding of aircraft emergencies and unusual requests
- developed their ability to recognise a variety of accents and dialects
- developed their vocabulary in a wide range of aviation-related topics

Aircrew and air traffic controllers who are required to meet the ICAO language proficiency requirements, as well as any other persons wishing to improve their aviation English language.

Essential:
Intermediate level of English.
