Module 2: Role Awareness & Decision Making skills

Introduction

This course is part of theĀ Soft Skills Certificate Programme.

The aviation industry is extremely innovative in finding new business models. Traditional ways of overseeing these models may no longer apply, therefore regulators need to find new ways of keeping oversight and focus on performance. This requires a change in culture and the mindsets of inspectors.

This course will focus on the understanding of the implications of the inspector role and decisions based on relevant facts, evidence and safety information as well as using common sense, expert judgement but also "gut feeling".

Course Content

The general course objective is to develop skills expected to be held by Inspectors to deal with upcoming challenges posed by introduction of safety management, risk-based oversight and multinational business models in all aviation domains.

  • Understand and act in compliance with the rules for conflict of interest
  • Recognise the limit of Inspectors authority when taking decisions and identify when to escalate to a higher level
  • Take informed decisions that are perceived as fair, objective and reasonable
