Module 1: Communication & Teamwork skills

Introduction

This course is part of the Soft Skills Certificate Programme.

The aviation industry is extremely innovative in finding new business models. Traditional ways of overseeing these models may no longer apply, Therefore regulators need to find new ways of keepingoversight and focus on performance. This requires a change in culture and the mindsets of inspectors.

This course will focus on attitudes and behaviour in effective communication, teamwork and cooperation with all stakeholders to achieve safety objectives, which is only possible when everybody is working together

Course Content

The general course objective is to develop skills expected to be held by Inspectors to deal with upcoming challenges posed by introduction of safety management, risk-based oversight and multinational business models in all aviation domains.

This course will offer theory, examples and practical exercises to provide the participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to:

  • Adapt communication style and tools to the audience - language, tone, style, content, format, non-verbal elements etc. - and get messages across that have the desired effect
  • Demonstrate openness and honesty while communicating. 
  • Listen attentively and ask clarifying questions
  • Achieve communication style in relation to the audience
  • Collaborate within the team and other domains, as well as with external stakeholders to gather information needed to regulate the overseen organisations
  • Support and act in accordance with final team decisions, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position
  • Achieve motivation and engagement in teamwork
  • Sustain constructive working relationships both internally and externally characterised by acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect
  • Recognise conflict and manage it constructively
  • Share own experience and knowledge openly, to benefit others and encourage others to do the same.
  • Express views in a positive, persuasive manner whilst remaining receptive to the views of others
  • Share own experience and knowledge

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you should have:
