Aviation Security Management (Basic)

Introduction

The course is designed to ease the skills constraints currently evident within the industry and steer compliance towards safe and secure flights, airports and support facilities in compliance with the stringent EU Doc 30 requirement, soon to be complemented by the ICAO Annex 17 Std. 3.1.7 that takes effect on 1st July 2013, where persons working within the industry should undergo and successfully complete relevant training before being authorised to implement security controls.

Course Content

The learning objectives of the basic training is to ensure compliance with Doc 30 Sec 11.2.2 and ICAO Annex 17 Std. 3.1.7 resulting in the following competencies:

  • Knowledge of previous acts of unlawful interference with civil aviation, terrorist acts and current threats;
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for aviation security;
  • Knowledge of the objectives and organisation of aviation security, including the obligations and responsibilities of persons implementing security controls;
  • Knowledge of access control procedures;
  • Knowledge of identification card systems used at the airport;
  • Knowledge of procedures for challenging persons and of circumstances in which persons should be challenged or reported;
  • Knowledge of reporting procedures;
  • Ability to identify prohibited articles;
  • Ability to respond appropriately to security related incidents;
  • Knowledge of how human behaviour and responses can affect security performance; and
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently.

  • Civil Aviation Authority staff implementing Security State Security Oversight,
  • Airport Employees, Airline Employees, Airport Postal, Aviation Catering Staff,
  • Air Freight and Cargo Handling Staff.

Pre-requisites

Essential:

  • Ability to speak, write and understand English with a Minimum of O’ Level or 12th Grade Standard of Education.
  • Be employed within the preserve of the Aviation Industry
