International SAR Operations - Introductory Module - OBSOLETE

Introduction

This course provides the delegate with a general overview and basic working knowledge of International (Airborne) Search and Rescue operations.

On completion of the course, the delegate should have achieved a sufficient working knowledge of the basic requirements needed to set up an effective SAR system, locally or nationally.

The course is designed to follow international best practices defined in both ICAO Annex 12, and the IAMSAR manuals, and the learning process is assisted by practical case study exercises conducted by the delegates under the supervision of the tutor. 

Course Content

  • Knowledge Application: Apply international best practices from ICAO Annex 12 and IAMSAR manuals to evaluate and develop local or national SAR operations.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze case studies to recommend improvements to SAR planning, operational control, and resource deployment.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with SAR agencies, utilizing assets and capabilities for effective search and rescue operations.
  • Critical Thinking: Evaluate SAR boundaries, rescue procedures, and satellite systems to enhance operational readiness.
