TRAINING COURSE

Implementing Competency-based Training and Assessment (CBTA) - DO NOT USE

Introduction

The periodic training of commercial pilots has moved from a legacy system based on prescriptive manoeuvres to a situation that recognises that operators need the tools to develop innovative and adaptive solutions to meet operational demands. The Alternative Training and Qualification Programme (ATQP) was the first such framework and that has now been joined by CBTA. Both make use of evidence drawn from operational data to create training and assessment systems that promote resilience.

This workshop will introduce delegates to the steps needed to introduce the concepts into their airline’s training programmes. At the end of the course delegates should be able to plan for the implementation of CBTA in their operation.

This workshop will show you how to:

  • Develop a road map towards CBTA
  • Clarify the differences between instructional systems design and competency model
  • Explain how to develop behavioural markers
  • Explain how to develop a grading system
  • Illustrate the problems of assessor standardisation
  • Outline the approach needed for developing and standardise high-performing training pilots
  • Explore the safety risk assessment process
  • Create reliable performance measures
  • Integrate LOSA, SMS and flight data to identify operational risk
  • Examine the implications of CBTA for CRM training
