ICAO-M-ITP: Fundamentals of Instructional Competencies

Introduction

The course provides instructors with the fundamentals of instructional competencies to prepare them for effective deliveries of competency-based training in compliance with ICAO Doc 10097, Training Instructors Guide (TIG), 1st ed., 2021 and international best practices in civil aviation.

Ensuring effective competency-based training can be a challenge nowadays. Many organizations face time and financial constraints, leading to insufficient instructor training and, as a result, lower course quality.

This M-ITP is designed to bridge this gap by equipping participants with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to deliver high-quality, competency-based training. By aligning with ICAO guidelines and using the most efficient instructional strategies, this course ensures that both experienced and new instructors can provide effective training that meets the highest standards.

This online course features 11 hours of interactive digital content, divided into the following four modules, each covering relevant topics:

  • Module 0 “Introduction to the course”

  • Module 1 “Prepare for a course delivery”

    • How to coordinate with the host training organization
    • How to ensure adequacy and availability of facilities and equipment
    • How to prepare a training strategy

  • Module 2 “Steps and strategies for a competency-based course delivery”

    • How to deliver an effective training session
    • How to perform the trainees’ assessment 

  • Module 3 “Evaluate the training effectiveness”

    • How to perform course evaluation
    • How to implement an ongoing performance improvement plan
